The Future Is Bright!
The Caragh GFC Juvenile section is possibly the most exciting part of the club for a number of reasons.
Every Friday between the 7pm and 8pm the grounds are bustling with the players of tomorrow as the Juvenile section of the club holds it's weekly training at this time. The Juvenile section looks after the ages groups from U12 down and for our youngest players those 5 to 6 years there is a Nursery group. It's open to all so if you are interested please come along any Friday and join in. Over the past few year much has been done to improve the facilities, with upgrades to the pitches, the lights and parking |

facilities. The process is continuous and so the ongoing support of the community is required and very much appreciated.
It really is great to watch these young athletes in action, because you know that the future of the club is in good hands!

Na Fianna Blitz 2016
|
On Saturday June 4th Caragh GFC U11’s travelled to na Fianna in Dublin to take part in a blitz for the second year in a row, with teams from other counties. A very enjoyable day was had by players, mentors & parents and our thanks were given to na Fianna for inviting us and for then organising such a well-run blitz in the summer sunshine. Caragh took a panel of 15 players to the blitz, who all played in each of the games & they all played their part in giving displays of football that showed how well this team is developing. |
Caragh 3-5 1-6 Naomh Colmcille (Meath)
Caragh won the first game against this Meath team who last year just got the upper hand in games against the Caragh lads. Caragh started strongly with Ruadhán Kane bursting through from midfield a number of times to put Caragh in an early lead. Oisin Bagnall reacted quickly to a breaking ball to further increase the lead. Tadhg Brennan was unlucky when his punched ball for a point fell short, but the Caragh team was exerting a lot of pressure on to the opposition defence at this stage. Naomh Colmcille then got a number of points in a row in the second half to give them hope of a comeback, but Conor Sullivan got a couple of insurance points at the end to give Caragh a 5 point victory.
Caragh 5-3 2-4 Parnells (Dublin)
Caragh won their second game thanks to a good all round team performance. Nathan Yap gave a number of accurate intelligent kick outs that allowed Mark Wallace to win much possession in midfield which he used well to set up a number of scores. Ruairi Munnelly was moved to midfield during this game & he fielded a number of high balls in addition to raising a green & white flag. Josh Gannon also finished well when put in a scoring position, while Jamie Doherty was happy to see his long range shot go to the roof of the net. All the time the defence remained solid with Jude Harman & Cian Burke showing the way.
Caragh 1-2 3-6 Whitehall Colmcille (Dublin)
Whitehall ‘won’ the blitz & were too strong for Caragh in this game. Ruari Munnelly & Cian Burke cleared a lot of ball but unfortunately Parnells were able to score a number of points from distance while also setting up moves that resulted in some well taken goals. The Caragh players should be commended for never giving up & playing to the final whistle in this game.
Caragh 5-3 2-4 na Fianna (Dublin)
The highlight for the Caragh club was the well-deserved win over the strong host team of the blitz. Na Fianna took an early lead but Liam Deane responded with a goal that put the Kildare team in the lead. Then two similar spectacular goals in quick succession, by Liam Deane & Ronan Doorey rocked the na Fianna team. The Caragh lads fielded high balls, lost their markers with a sharp turn along the side-line & then soloed at pace before blasting the ball into the far corner of the net with unstoppable shots. In the second half na Fianna responded well & got the margin back to a point. At this stage the Caragh defence held firm where Liam Blake showed some intelligent play in reading the game to break up a number of attacks & then used the ball well to set up a number of counter attacks. Fionnán Manders then drove at the opposition from the half back position as he done throughout the blitz, which resulted in a number of scores including a point for himself. The lads can be proud of this display which resulted in them winning a game playing a high standard of football.
Caragh 1-7 3-4 Carrickmacross Emmets (Monaghan)
Caragh were in with a chance of winning the blitz before playing their fifth game, but unfortunately made a bad start to the game when shipping three goals early on. The Caragh lads didn’t drop their heads & started a comeback, with Mark Wallace combining well with Fionnán Manders who blasted the ball to the top corner of the net. Conor Sullivan drove the team forward getting a number of points which reduced the gap to the minimum. Carrickmacross replied with a couple of points, but in the final seconds Liam Deane made a fine run & had a powerful goal bound shot blocked by an excellent save from the Monaghan keeper. The Caragh lads just ran out of time, but gave there all in what was again a game played by two good footballing teams.

U11 Div 2: Kilcock 0-5 Caragh 0-4
Caragh put in a committed performance away to Kilcock but just came up short in a highly competitive game. Early on Kilcock dominated possession but failed to fully register this on the scoreboard, mainly due to the tigerish tackling of Liame Deane & Ruari Munnelly putting their forwards under pressure.
The Kilcock team was physically strong but the Caragh lads matched them in the physical stakes particularly the half backs Jude Harman & Billy Byrne, who began to give their team a foothold in the game. Fionnán Manders scored a skilful point on the run after cutting in from the touchline to get Caragh’s first score of the game. Oisin Bagnell was also unfortunate to see an accurate shot from distance dropping just short after some good setup play by Jamie Doherty.
Caragh were two points behind at half time, but were more of an attacking force in the second half. Conor Sullivan & Ronan Doorey displayed some fine link play to see the latter putting the minimum between the teams. At this stage both teams were going for scores, but excellent defending by both teams made sure that scores were hard to come by.
A feature of the Caragh play was the accurate kick outs by Cian Burke which allowed his team to setup a number of attacks. Mark Wallace also won much possession in midfield which helped drive his team forward. Fergal McKennedy showed some composure when getting a couple of points under pressure towards the end of the game. Unfortunately the home team scored just before the end & Caragh didn’t have enough time to respond on the scoreboard.
This was a close game played by two evenly matched teams which will be of benefit to both teams.
